About robcmatthews

Having studied at the university of Durham, and subsequently finishing his PhD in cancer therapy, Rob left academia to pursue his interest psychotherapy and spirituality. He began studying psychotherapy in London only to find he could not find the energy to complete his studies. Disillusioned, he left the UK with his young family with the idea of building his own cob house & starting a retreat center to practice and teach meditation and related studies. Discovering Gendlin’s Focusing was a decisive step in Rob’s understanding of what was needed for his life – discovering his own inner aliveness and inner sense of direction. He is currently studying with the British Focusing Association. AH Almaas has been a decisive factor in his own development. Rob spent some years with the Ridhwan school; and is indebted to the teachers of the Diamond Approach for self realisation. Other influences include Greg Goode and his emptiness teachings. He lives with his family in Southern Spain.

{.._}

{.._} If we are able to accept that our longing is for that certain quality of experience, let’s call it {.._}, where {.._} is (the awareness of) an embedded quality of being/life-infused-aliveness... that we cannot actually capture (no-thing) but we do recognise and deeply appreciate...and, importantly, that this {.._} is that quality of experience we [...]

Hiding by David Whyte

By |April 20th, 2016|Poetry, Sacred Listening|0 Comments

HIDING is a way of staying alive. Hiding is a way of holding ourselves until we are ready to come into the light. Even hiding the truth from ourselves can be a way to come to what we need in our own necessary time. Hiding is one of the brilliant and virtuoso practices of almost [...]

inner Freedom

By |March 12th, 2016|Uncategorized|0 Comments

When I have an opinion, judgement, when I take a position that I cannot easily let go of, laugh at, I am caught in my own delusive mimd-made stories of me. Worse than that I perpetrate my inner separation from what is life giving and alive in me, I continue the very cycle that I [...]

The Answer Is Blowing In the Wind

By |February 19th, 2016|Sacred Listening|0 Comments

There are no intellectual realisations that can end suffering by itself. The mind, our conceptual mapping apparatus and the sense of I and me (ego) that arises with it is not going to deliver the solution it thinks it needs. The ego mind, the personality, the historically created self-concept doesn't know reality directly. That mind [...]

Freedom is in Every Perception

By |December 21st, 2015|Inquiry, Sacred Listening|1 Comment

To discover freedom is in every perception implies we do not avoid our current situation, our thoughts, emotions, feelings or our sensations, that we somehow blank out what we don’t want to experience and replace it with hope, food, awareness, presence or something more acceptable. This will only create tension and restlessness and a sense [...]

Hiding Out

By |December 3rd, 2015|Focusing, Inquiry, Sacred Listening|1 Comment

Without doubt my greatest fear is my very-own shadow. Which is a bit of a bind as it seems to follow me everywhere I go and although most of the time i am not aware of it, all it takes is for someone to step on it and i am propelled into reactivity. For years [...]

The Mysterious

By |November 28th, 2015|Quotes, Sacred Listening|0 Comments

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. ~ ALBERT EINSTEIN Isn't it the mysterious that which we truly long to "know"? That place where something new is continually emerging...revealing and unfolding into our life? We never get to fully grasp the mysterious. It is out [...]

An Ongoing Crescendo – John Prendergast

By |November 27th, 2015|Quotes, Sacred Listening|0 Comments

Attuning with our inner knowing is an unfolding, open-ended, lifelong process. It doesn’t end in some final, fully enlightened state. There is no finish line. Jean Klein described it as an ongoing crescendo. After many years of first seeking and then discovering, I find this a resonant description. ~ John Prendergast

Is Sacred Listening similar to other spiritual approaches?

By |November 24th, 2015|Focusing, Sacred Listening|0 Comments

Q: Is Sacred Listening similar to other spiritual approaches? A: We have a different focus to many other approaches and traditions. We are not so interested in particular realizations, enlightenment or any particular state.  Our focus is not on being happier, on fixing or improving ourselves. In fact we are not outcome focused at all and it is [...]

Enough by David Whyte

Enough, These few words are enough If not these words, this breath. If not this breath, this sitting here. This opening to the life we have refused again and again until now until now ~ David Whyte
